Caratteri geopolitici della distribuzione dei castelli del Tirolo
P.E. Marchetto

Political and geographical characteristics of castle distribution in the Tirol - The The ancient site of Monformoso has recently been the subject of a research programme by the Archaeological Group of Vercelli.
From the Middle Ages to the present it traced. From the documentary evidence, summarised here, the site development from the Middle Age to the present is traced. This places the site amongst the examples of the neglect an transformation of a rural fortified site consequent upon the union of two bordering territories.
The logical sitings for medieval fortified sites in the area are briefly considered an compared with the known pattern of classical settlement.
From which the territorial palimpsest of the Monformoso site is hypothesized the inhabited area, once a provincial district capital, has been so changed as to make nearly unrecognizable the true extent and form of the village, castle an parish church of St. Andrew: placed completely levelled by later robbing.
The initial and incomplete results of the historical an archaeological survey would suggest Monformoso to be a site of interest for the study of the material culture of a rural fortified settlement of the province of Vercelli from the 13th to 19th centuries.
