Considerations on the preservation and display of archaeological remain in urban areas - Archaeological excavations in towns are connected with building activity and the preservation of remains may be imperilled by the continuation of a building programme. The author considers the differents solutions to this problem effected in Italy and other countries in recent years.
From this analysis he draws a list of suggestions to meet the differing exigencies of both archaeologists and architects:
 -     techniques of preservation should protect against both atmospheric pollution and inclement weather.
 -     the remains should be made accessible to the public by means of drawings and models and an effort by the architects to provide an evocative atmosphere.
 -     the remains should preferably be included in a functional context which enhances their interest
 -     they should also be connected with other remains in the town in oder to present a unified picture of its history.
