Functional analysis of endscrapers of gravettian site of Ponte di Pietra (Ancona) - The gravettian site of Ponte di Pietra (AN) presents an interesting tool assemblage. Among thousands of artefacts, cores, flakes and blades, there are about 600 tools. This paper is focused on the functional analysis applied to the 40 endscrapers found during the excavations of the years 1964, 1987 and 1989.
The use wear analysis has been done applying both the low power and the high power approaches. For a group of archaeological tools were prepared elastomeric casts for the SEM observations. 17 endscrapers have been used to scrape, to whittle and to saw medium to hard material like wood and bone/antler.
